BLADE RUNNER 2049. weta workshop,

3d CONCEPT DESIGNER + MODEL MAKER

Part of the small team that produced the award winning miniatures in Blade Runner 2049. My role was to design and build the skyscrapers for the LA city set by interpreting environmental concept art into real physical "miniature" structures.

This process began by taking cityscape concept art and designing what the look of individual buildings would be. These buildings were then CAD modelled to scale so the components could be broken down and prepared for laser cutting. After the parts were cut, the buildings were then created by assembling all the interlocking parts (like a giant 3D jigsaw puzzle). After painting, the final step was to apply tiny details like hand railings and antenna, and often bits off plastic model kits, to complete the final look.
